favourite layouts

I chose two of my favourite layouts from the ones I thought of, and drew them out to test if they would look good. In both images the person would show in front of the masthead and be the main focus.

In this one the school logo is behind the slanted masthead and there are some extra pictures of around the school, the person is also not obstructed by the cove lines. 

In this one the school logo is in full view, the extra pictures are above and below the cover lines but the person is still in front of the masthead. The cover lines only go over what is under the face like neck and chest.

From other magazines as well as school magazines, I thought that it would be important to have someone if the front cover. Although mind my drawing is not the highest quality I recognise that it's comon and effective to have close up or medium close up shots as it includes their face and shows their expressions clearly. The masthead I made big and obvious so to draw people's attention as well as including the school logo and initials to give it a sense of where it was from and who it was for. I think with the inclusion of the tag lines and strap line of sorts it gives the impression it is mostly aimed at students while also having some parts for both students and parents. I also decided to put the tag lines in school tie colours although not specifically aimed at the years they correspond to I felt it would give a closer sense of unity. I used rhetorical questions in the tag lines because. I know they would draw attention and curiosity to the magazine especially for those that are interested in the titles. I put the person in front of the logo, as you can still see the logo, I felt it was important to show that students come first in plants brook in a sense as if the student was the most important thing on the front cover an d the main focus.

This lesson we focused more on getting portrait style photos, or at least with people in them, mostly what i learn from this lesson was you have to be careful with lighting, it reminded me that lower light levels will need a longer exposure time and a steadier hand as movement is going to distort the images, alot hought this works well trying to get sots with movement in

we took photos around the building trying to get some examples of different shot types, some were harder to get than others, and we didn't know how to use all of the school cameras functions to best get results, although some of the photos i think are good examples of their shot types.
